Civil Project Engineer

If you’re preparing for your PE or newly licensed and you’re ready to move from “supporting” projects to truly leading them, this is your opportunity! Bring your experience, your curiosity, and your drive to keep growing—and let’s build the next great project together at MBN Engineering. We’re hiring a Civil Project Engineer for our Fargo, ND office to help deliver land development projects and related consulting services for clients across the upper Midwest.

Quick Facts

  • Location: Fargo, ND

  • Pay: $75,000–$95,000/year DOE

  • Experience: 5+ years of land or site development/civil engineering

  • Licensure: PE or able to obtain within 6 months (ND licensure/reciprocity as applicable)

  • Tools: AutoCAD Civil 3D; Microsoft 365; Bluebeam

In this role, you’ll help carry projects from early due diligence and feasibility through final design and construction closeout. You’ll coordinate with municipalities and agencies, shape construction documents and opinions of probable cost, and design grading, drainage, utilities, and stormwater systems that work in the real world.

Why MBN Engineering

We’re a consulting partner to architects and developers, and we take pride in practical designs that get approved and get built. You’ll work closely with clients and permitting agencies, learn from a multi-discipline team, while still doing challenging site/civil work that grows your judgment and leadership skills.

For the best fit with MBN Engineering, the qualifications we require are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
  • 5+ years of relevant land development/site-civil experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure within 6 months (via ND licensure or reciprocity, as applicable).
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and general proficiency with Microsoft 365 and Bluebeam.
  • Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Valid driver’s license

If you have these skills, you are better fit!

  • Experience preparing hydrology/hydraulic models and stormwater design (e.g., HydroCAD).

  • Experience with permitting and agency coordination in the upper Midwest.

  • Experience with cost estimating and/or construction administration.

  • Demonstrated mentoring/technical leadership experience.

If you like variety, clear expectations, and the chance to make real decisions (with support), you’ll fit in well.

Here’s what we offer:

  • Standard work schedule is 40 hours per week
  • Summer hours (Memorial Day to Labor Day): Monday– Thursday 7:30–5:30; Friday 8:00–12:00.
  • Salary is DOE and ranges from $75,000 to $95,000 annually with the following benefits:
    • Comprehensive health, dental, vision, RX insurance plan – 80% company paid premium.

    • Long Term Disability and Life Insurance – 100% company paid premium.

    • Paid time off and eight paid holidays

    • Health Savings Account (HSA)

    • 401(k) plan with profit sharing
    • Continuing education reimbursement

    • Bonus opportunity

    • PE license renewal reimbursement

What you’ll do:

  • Coordinate with local municipalities, agencies, and surveyors to support entitlements and permitting.
  • Oversee and prepare construction documents, details, specifications, and opinion-of-probable-cost estimates.
  • Develop site/civil design deliverables including grading, drainage/stormwater, utilities, and erosion control as applicable.
  • Coordinate internal and external design team members (architects, other disciplines, and subconsultants) to complete an integrated project.
  • Provide leadership, training, and mentoring to less experienced engineers and team members.
  • Perform quality reviews for other engineers and designers.
  • Develop and improve engineering processes, design tools, and implement innovative technology.
  • Attend design review meetings and interact with clients. We trust our engineers to lead conversations – not just calculations.
  • Make periodic visits to construction sites as required and support construction administration activities (e.g., RFIs/submittals).

You’ll feel at home here if you’re PE-ready and want your next chapter to include:

  • Own projects end-to-end (not just assigned tasks)

  • Interact directly with clients and permitting agencies

  • Lead coordination and influence project strategy

  • Mentor junior engineers; review technical work

  • Grow into long-term technical or project leadership

To apply, please submit your application through our hiring system. We look forward to learning more about your background and interest in joining our team.
